I don't remember the day I woke up and suddenly had bad skin. But that's because I don't remember a time when I naturally had really good skin. I've always bruised easily and since teenhood my acne marks seem to last forever. (Though Clinique Even Better Clinical helps with the latter. And prescription meds help with the acne itself.) But here's the thing: I could literally do nothing to my hair, just drop it down from a bun like a librarian-going-sexy in a bad teen comedy, and bam, it looks great. No blow-dry, no problem.
Now, maybe because I don't have it, I've always thought smooth, unblemished skin is the secret to real beauty and envy people who just wake up glowing. But I realize that people with thinning hair might beg to differ. A dab of concealer can't cover a bald spot. (A wig can but you're not getting that at the drugstore.) In fact, a friend of mine is now going through painful scalp injections trying to save her thinning hair, and she's seen zero results so far.
We polled our Facebook friends to find out where they stood: Would they rather have perfect skin or perfect hair? The answer was overwhelmingly skin—86 percent! But the people who chose hair did have their reasons. One woman straight up had the inverse of mine: "I've always had perfect skin but my hair, not so much."
